Broga Hill Experience

Broga Hill is one of the most commercialized hiking spots in Malaysia. It’s located in Semenyih. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour drive if you are coming from Petaling Jaya. Travel agencies are also bringing tourist to this place to look at the sunrise. It has quite a beautiful sunrise.

The reason why so many people are heading to Broga Hill is because it’s very easy to find and of course the most important reason that everyone loves it would be because it is an extremely easy hike. The hike from the base camp where you park your car to the top takes about 30 minutes if you are fast to about an hour if you are walking leisurely. Another reason that Broga Hill is so popular is because you can watch a very nice sunrise from there with minimal effort.

Broga Hill is overly commercialized. The reason why this is said is because sometimes when you go up to the very top, you would be able to see the whole mountain is full with people. The grasses can be very little, imagine people squeezing among each other and you have very little room to move. It feels like if you are going to a super market with a 90% discounted sale.

The Journey To The Peak

There are a lot of avid photographers that goes up to Broga Hill to take pictures of the sunrise. They have to carry quite a heavy load up with their tripods. This weight is at least a few kilograms. A hiker would understand that every extra kilogram of weight is not very fun. All of the photographers will try to reach the top of the hill to capture a magnificent view of the sunrise.

It’s advisable to start the journey around 5.30 am if the hiker has stamina problems. If the hiker is fit, starting at 6.00 am would be a good time too. The equipment that you would need to bring would be a pair of good shoes, 1.5 litre of water for all those heavy drinkers, torch light (This is VERY Important), mosquito repellent, sunblock, a cap to protect against the sun because it’s quite barren on top and also a pair of sunglasses if you would want to look cool on top.

This trek, it’s not necessary to bring a pair of good quality hiking boots but the hiker would need to bring a shoe that has proper grip. Be careful of this stretch where there are landslides. If I remember correctly there is a rope along this area, please hold on to the rope and take extreme caution, because if the hiker does fall in, it will be a fall that you would be able to break a leg or injure yourself. It is best NOT to go to Broga Hill if it has rained the night before, because the WHOLE track would be VERY slippery.

Overall Broga Hill is quite an enjoyable hike and it is recommended to hikers that are totally new to hiking. For hikers that are more experienced, this would be a stroll in the park. Have a good hike people and ENJOY the SUNRISE!

If I ever visit Malaysia during dry weather, I'll definitely take in this hike. It's nice to know that you can get to the trailhead without needing to rent a car. Great pics of the view from the top. Voted up and interesting.

This sounds like it would be a nice hike to the top of Broga Hill in dry weather. The sunsets are probably equally beautiful in addition to the sunrises. Thanks for introducing this location to us. Enjoyed your photos.
